berkeley river lodge - kimberley coast, wa

Project: Opening photography for Berkeley River Lodge, Kimberley, Western Australia (2026)
Result: A library of lifestyle, food and beverage, guest activities, interior and exterior images, published by Australian Traveller and delicious.
Overview
There is no road to Berkeley River Lodge. Guests fly in to where the Berkeley River meets the Timor Sea, on the Kimberley coast. The lodge is part of Saltwater Hotels & Resorts and hosts no more than 36 guests at a time. In May 2026 the lodge reopened after an extensive renovation and rebrand following cyclone damage.
What they wanted
A fresh library of images for the reopening. It had to show the renovated lodge and the experience of staying there, and be ready for their website, marketing and media.
What I delivered
- Arrival: The charter flight in and welcome drinks
- Lifestyle images: worked with models across lifestyle shoots to capture guests at the pool, enjoying the villa and participating in activities (e.g. yoga, sunset drinks, beach picnics, fishing, waterfalls)
- Food and beverage at Dunes Restaurant: from breakfast to dinner by lamplight, incorporating moments of service and guests enjoying their meals
- Interiors of the renovated villas and shared spaces across the lodge
- Exteriors and aerial views of the lodge, the dunes and the coastline
- Sunrise and sunset shoots
- Brand partner imagery styled into the stay, including Bellroy, The Fieldbar Co. and ChartAir.
The outcome
- They were provided with a complete image library covering the full experience from arrival in a charter plane and welcome drinks, checking into the villa, shared meals in the restaurant, quiet coffees in the lounge, sunrise yoga on the deck, fishing and waterfalls, beach drives and relaxing by the pool.
- Images were taken in landscape and portrait to cover needs for website, socials, marketing, advertising and print.
- Images were published by Australian Traveller, delicious and several other media platforms
In their words
"From our very first conversation to the final edited images landing in our inbox, working with Sue was an absolute pleasure. She has a rare ability to move through a shoot with ease, capturing the natural beauty of what’s in front of her while instinctively understanding our brand. The turnaround was impressively quick, the images were stunning, and the whole experience was seamless from start to finish. We wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again." Berkeley River Lodge
